A bit of background information: In the book, the song was written by Judah Isidor, an amateur songwriter who dreams of someday "hitting it big". He came up with the "murder most beautiful" line first, and at the suggestion of a coworker used it to round off each stanza. Titling it "Mattie's Song" in honor of the sister of another coworker, who was murdered, when a band bought it to record they retitled it "The Nightmares of Certainty". Here I've published it under its original title.
